Here we are in 2020!
This is my last year as Creative Producer Regional Youth for Country Arts SA and Carclew – my last day will be 22nd October 2020 – so hit me up if you have ideas, need support, wanna brainstorm a new creative youth arts project.
That’s what I’m here for.
To be a listener, cheer squad, connector, collaborator, facilitator, champion and ally for creative folk aged 12-26 living in regional South Australia.
This year I will be continuing to work with and mentor the Art Squad and I’ll be working with three new groups of young people to deliver This Was Urgent Yesterday. I’m also working hard to find funding/resources to deliver a second iteration of Writing Place but no guarantees on that one at this stage. I’m also collaborating right now with Carclew’s Funding Officer Rebecca Meston to deliver a series of 7workshops supporting young artists to build their grant-writing skills and submit applications to March funding rounds. We’ve called the series The Art of Grants and we delivered our second session this morning. All of the sessions are being delivered online so that participants can be involved from wherever they are. The series is a trial and if successful we will look at ways to deliver it in the lead up to future Carclew and Country Arts SA funding grounds as well. Behind the scenes I’m talking with other colleagues about opportunities to connect young people with Country Arts SA’s other programs and to connect regional young people with more of Carclew’s offerings. That part of my role is often invisible (and that’s totally okay) but is a big part of why this role exists – to work at breaking down silos, increasing collaboration and just doing whatever we all can to see more opportunities for more creative regional young people in South Australia.
So again I’m going to be on the road a LOT this year, which means Simon* and I cranking the tunes. I’d absolutely love it if you jumped into our collaborative Spotify playlist and added some of your own favourite songs. You can find the playlist here.
And a reminder (if you’re not already in there) to join our lil’ FB community Regional Creative – Youth (I did not pick the name, hah!) for creative regional South Australians aged 12-26 and their allies. I post opportunities like grants, professional development and workshops and it’s also a place for you to share things you’re working on or thinking about. We all forget sometimes how valuable it is to share what might seem very small to us. Those little things might be the spark that ignites someone else, that initiates a new collaboration or makes someone else feel less alone.
So what do you have planned for 2020? And how can I help?
