Choose the River

I have woken up under the hugest Grandfather River Red Gum, it is the home to all manner of birds; cockatoos; galahs; parrots; and ducks – yes ducks – I’ve never seen ducks roosting in a tree but there they are, a pair of native ducks, looking very much at home on the broad limbs of this most magnificent tree.

It is my last morning alone with Banjo on the boat with the River – I feel very sad like someone or something is about to die and I have to be brave and pick up my guitar,
O Brother Wind will carry me,’
A speedboat cruises by with a very casual water skier being towed along behind.
This is a River.
Last night I walked along a dirt track next to the healthiest looking beef cows – an irrigation channel bordering their paddock.
This too is a River.
