Demolition Symphony

Artist: Robert Petchell
Performance of an original work created by staff and clients of SFHS on 17 December 2013
Musician and composer Robert Petchell worked with staff and clients of the Southern Fleurieu Health Service (SFHS) to develope a 3 part symphony. This original work, Undressing the Building – a Demolition Symphony was created as a musical expression of the redevelopment of SFHS’s Victor Harbor campus.
Robert held 23 sessions with 5 different groups including members of the Unity Band and the Create and Connect group.
Undressing the Building – a Demolition Symphony was performed on 17 December 2013 at Southern Fleurieu Health Service with staff and clients using both traditional instruments and instruments created from medical equipment and building materials. The work expressed the theme of ‘change’ and explored how change can threaten us, challenge us, but also bring us together.
Robert then worked with participants to record the symphony and create a short video clip.
The clip was launched with a lunch-time concert for staff on 10 June 2014
Partner Outcomes:
- A breaking down of barriers between departments, staff and clients
- A mechanism for exploring and coping with change for both staff and clients
The Demolition Symphony emerged from the ‘Dressing the Building’ project. Click here to see the Change & Adaptation project map.
